The Seashore Centre is the base where all the coastal and marine conservation management is carried out. The seashore centre is in Torbay, south Devon, England. With up to date offices and a meeting room, which is available for hire. The centre is also an educational, with many interactive display boards teaching visitors about life on the shore and how to conserve it. We also hold regular events to actively encourage people to become involved, along with wildlife cruises. A ranger is always present on site during the summer months.

The centre also encourages a career in marine biology and conservation with a volunteering program allowing students to gain experience.

Around Great Britain there are 16 National Marine Sensitive areas, in the south west we have 13 regional marine sensitive areas! We hope that puts into context how important a Seashore Centre like ours is.

In 1999 the visitors centre was opened at Goodrington Sands, one of Torbay's biggest beach resort areas. Sited next door to the popular Inn on the Quay and the Quaywest water-slidepark, the Seashore Centre is a window onto the magical and secret world of the beach and the seashore.

Inside there are displays about life under the sands, an amazing walk-in Rockpool Zone, a video microscope to zoom in on plankton and an interactive PC to find out about the wonders of the underwater world.

The Centre is the base for Torbay's Coastal Zone Manager and a team of staff and volunteers who work to let people know about the wet and salty parts of Torbay's wildlife. The trusts coastal zone manger actually is Nigel Smallbones.

You will be amazed, educated and learn to appreciate and conserve our British marine life.

Most people imagine British coastal waters as being cold, green and murky. This is often very true. You may be surprised to learn then, that the sea within Torbay has some of the richest and most fascinating forms of marine life to be found in Britain.

Shawn the Prawn is our guide and he will show you through the marine life of Torbay, Goodrington Sands and Saltern Cove, the first underwater local nature reserve (1973).

It is our duty to conserve it for not only our future but for the marine life itself. It is this website's intent to provide at glance the huge biodiversity in the ocean and raise awareness to the problems, which threatens its existence. We hope you will pay us a visit, take part in the beach activities or become a member of the trust to help us in our work to ensure the future of the underwater nature reserve.

The seashore centre offers a wide range of seashore - based activities as part of its environmental education program.  The centre is used by students, both local and those visiting the area. Guide and brownie and scout groups, as well as adult education groups and those with special needs. The activities offered are not only used for visiting groups throughout the year, but also play a large part in international, national and local events such as world oceans day, marine week and our own events program.

The Seashore Centre participates in and organizes many events every year. We work on international events such as World Oceans Day, as well as more localized events such as Marine Week, Low Tide celebrations, and those events concerned with projects running at the centre.

The Centre was opened on 15th July 1999 by The Worshipful the Mayor of Torbay Councillor John A. Turner and Nick Baker

The Centre was created thanks to founding from:
