World Oceans Day in an annual event to raise awareness of the
marine environment. It was first declared at the United Nations Conference on
Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro in 1992.
This international event has been running at the Seashore Centre for the past
six years. Each year we have focused on a particular area of the marine
environment, and for the second year running the chosen subject was plankton.
This international event offers a wonderful opportunity to
increase awareness of the seas and oceans by celebrating them! In previous years
we have had visits from the whale workshop (life size inflatable whales and
dolphins), as well as offering a full day of activities from rock pool rambles
and beach art to plankton trawling and seashore safaris.
