Notes: Suitable location for studying boulder shore and sandy shore communities – comparisons between two different habitats. Corbyn’s Head, TorquayType: Sand / Shingle, rocky shore. Access: Easy (by A3022 Torbay Road). Beach Facilities: Toilets near beach. Suitable Activities: Shell hunt, beach art, rockpooling and environmental games. Notes: Used by TCCT for school seashore visits. Elberry Cove Type: Shingle. Access: Difficult (across Pitch and Putt course from Broadsands beach) Health and Safety Issues: Water ski lane. Beach Facilities: None (nearest facilities are at Broadsands beach) Suitable Activities: Beach art, environmental games, longshore drift, grading of pebble size. Notes: Suitable location for surveying pebble shores. Goodrington SandsType: Sand, rockpools on the middle stone and rocky shore at the southern end of south sands. Access: Easy (off B3199 Dartmouth Road). Beach facilities: First-aid post at Quaywest, toilets by beach, public telephone, cafes, amusements, water-park and pub. Suitable Activities: Shell hunt, beach art, rockpooling, environmental games and scavenger hunt, plankton trawling. Notes: Used by TCCT for most school seaside visits. School groups use the Seashore Centre at Drakes House as an educational resource during visits. Displays cover various topics set out in three zones; the beach zone, the sea zone and the rockpools zone. There are tanks, which hold a variety of local marine species in the human sized rockpool. Three Beaches Headland at the southern end of South Sands is a suitable location for studying rocky shores. Suitable Activities: zonation patterns – transect of community down the shore. Assessing abundance – estimating percentage cover of species, measuring exposure to wave action. Studies on specific species such as barnacles / limpets. Hollicombe BeachType: Sand, rocky shore.
